Does this mean a new Mazda 6 for the States?
Yes, says Mazda but don’t expect the new Mazda 6 to look anything like the new Mazda Atenza says Mazda’s North American spokesman, Jeremy Barnes:
“The Mazda 6 will be designed and engineered for the U.S.” Barnes said. “It will be on sale later this year as an ‘09 model.” He added that the Atenza, which was unveiled in Japan on Tuesday, “doesn’t hint at what we’ll get in the U.S.” He would not divulge specifications, only saying that “the car we’ll get in the U.S. will continue to be built in Flat Rock [Michigan].”
The new Mazda Atenza sports a 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine known as the”MZR”. The old Mazda Atenza had a less efficient 2.3 liter engine which suffered from poor emissions. Mazda also recommended premium gasoline for best performance with the old 2.3 liter egine but says that regular gasoline will do just fine and emissions shouldn’t be a problem with the new 2.5 liter MZR.
They’ve also made this new Mazda Atenza slightly larger than it’s predecessor but it weighs less than ever before.
